Good idea for gothic short story? - adventure vacations with kids

I have to write a Gothic short story for my English literature class. The requirements for a gothic short story is that you need: the dark side of man, the fear endings strange, strange settings, strange sadness, irony and twists. Is that a Gothic Tale? I have an idea, one (a teenager, teenagers and a mother) who moves to a city, because the mother found a job outside the home. The 3 family members move into their new home and close to home, it is a wild forest. Held in the summer so that children are on vacation, while the mother got a job in the city. Children / young people from home, so they have to make their summer vacation on their adventures around the forest. You see a castle in the woods. Then explore. A scientist who has the fortress. He drinks a potion and becomes strange and bad children will take control. Then happen Adventure / Drama / strange things. The child died at the end for the scientist.
